There's good news and bad news. Unfortunately, LaJuan Ramsey was cut at the last minicamp. Fortunately, he quickly agreed to play for the San Francisco 49ers next season. The Niners are still in a rebuilding phase, unfortunately.
If you are going to the Eagles' Carnival this year, don't forget to say hi to Mike Patterson and Winston Justice. They would appreciate your support.
Also, our annual SCendoff is July 27th. Please RSVP with the Jessica Etezady as soon as possible.
If you need another excuse to get out of the house this weekend, then cheer on two Trojans running in The Penn Relays. Lionel Larry is competing in the sprinting events and Duane Solomon is running 800m & 1500m races.
Just when you thought life was perfect, one piece of bad news brings you back to reality. I was feeling pretty good after the men's and women's basketball teams beat UCLA last weekend. Then I learned Norm Chow became UCLA's new offensive coordinator today. I instantly thought that next year's football game became 10X more interesting.
The LA Times reported on the status of some current and former coaches of the football team. First, Ken Norton Jr. turned down a job with UCLA to stay at USC next season. Norton said his reason for staying at USC was the timing of UCLA's job offer. Second, Jeff Fisher of the Tennessee Titans fired Norm Chow. Coach Chow said he did not see the move coming but understood Coach Fisher's decision. In my opinion, it won't be long before Norm Chow gets a new job. Lastly, Pete Carroll returned from his vacation on Monday and promptly said he wasn't leaving the school yet. However, Yahoo! sports reports the Atlanta Falcons are pursuing Coach Carroll.
Just in case you're looking for something to do during the bye week, Adam Rose's blog provides a couple hours' worth of diversion. My inner misogynist especially enjoyed the booties4booty campaign for the Heisman Trophy. If this carries over to next season, however, I'd shudder to see the site for Mark Sanchez. Dirty Sanchez anybody?
There's an article in today's Courier Post about Winston Justice. Just like any other player, he says he is eager to get off the sideline and play in some games. I'm looking forward to seeing him play on Sundays. I just hope it's not at the expense of a starter's injury.
Spring practice is over and summer school is in full swing. That means there's nothing to talk about the football team, right? Well, Bill Plaschke's article is already hyping the team. He basically says the 1st team is exceptionally talented and the bench is stacked with kids that could start at any other school in the country. I guess we have a lot to look forward to next season.
During this year's NFL draft, I was hoping the Eagles would use their first pick on Dwayne Jarrett or Steven Smith. Apparently, Ed Rendell was thinking the same thing. Saturday's Inquirer mentioned an interview that the governor had with Bloomberg News; where he thought the Eagles should have picked Jarrett instead of Kevin Kolb. Dwayne Jarrett in an Eagles uniform would have been epic. The rumors of Keyshawn Johnson coming to Philadelphia, however, wouldn't be as cool.
The tipoff for tonight's game is around 10pm. Channel 3, however, is covering the 'Nova game at 9:30. Which means we'll only catch dribs and drabs of the Arkansas game until the battle of the wildcats is over.
If you can't sleep tonight, why not watch 30 minutes of the Stanford game. We're catching a break because the Comcast gods have been gracious enough to put the last half of the 'SC-Stanford game on CSN at 10pm. Comcast is carrying the game on channel 34, and channel 200 for the HD-enabled.
I forsee an upset by the mighty Beavers. Beavers have very large teeth and stong tails. We are coming off... read more
